Care & Use

Care & Use

To ensure your furniture has a long life we recommend the following general care recommendations are considered:

  • Ensure furniture is dry and protected from the weather. It is recommended to use an outdoor furniture cover and to store furniture in a cool dry area when not in use. Before covering, furniture needs to be thoroughly cleaned and dried. Cushions should be removed and stored in a dry place if possible.
  • Avoid letting water stand on the surface of your furniture and cushions.
  • Avoid placing hot items directly on any surface. Use coasters, placemats and table clothes to protect the finish.
  • When moving furniture carefully lift, do not drag across the ground as may cause damage to the furniture.
  • Ensure no chemicals come into direct contact with the furniture if this occurs clean the furniture immediately.
  • Do not stand on furniture for your own safety and for the sake of the furniture.
  • Use a dry, clean cloth to dust furniture weekly.
  • Fittings: Bolts, nuts and screws should be checked periodically to ensure they are still secure. Do not over tighten as this may damage the threads.

WICKER/TEXTILENE:

  • Regularly clean using a sponge/soft brush with mild soap and lukewarm water then rinse clean to avoid dirt build-up.
  • Avoid the use of abrasive chemicals, harsh cleaners, rough cleaning pads and polishes.

NATURAL TIMBERS:

  • Ensure you oil timber with a clear timber oil immediately after assembly before exposing to the elements.
  • Continue to coat with a clear timber oil once or twice a year to maintain your furniture’s finish, lightly sanding before applying if required.
  • For spot cleaning, spray off any debris with a hose and brush off any dirt or debris with a soft-bristle brush. Spores that create mould and mildew thrive in environments with dirt and moisture. Dry with a soft cloth.
  • For more thorough cleaning, we recommend using a hardwood cleaner. Furniture should be thoroughly cleaned periodically and always before storing.
  • In addition, we recommend using a hardwood shield protector which penetrates and protects hardwood furniture against mould, mildew and ultraviolet rays.

RECYCLED TEAK:

  • Recycled teak is characterised by visible marks, scratches and minor splits that are a natural part of the style and character.
  • Recycled teak reacts in the same way as new teak when exposed to the elements. Teak will naturally weather to silver colouring on the surface when exposed to the sun over time, this is a sign that the natural oils of the teak are evaporating.
  • For spot cleaning, spray off any debris with a hose and brush off any dirt or debris with a soft-bristle brush. Spores that create mould and mildew thrive in environments with dirt and moisture. Dry with a soft cloth.
  • For more thorough cleaning, we recommend using a hardwood/teak cleaner. Furniture should be thoroughly cleaned periodically and always before storing.
  • In addition, we recommend using a hardwood/teak shield protector which penetrates and protects hardwood furniture against mould, mildew and ultraviolet rays.
  • If you wish to retain the natural golden colour of your teak furniture, we recommend the use of a specialised teak sealant. This will not alter the strength or longevity of the furniture, just the appearance. Your furniture must be exposed to the outdoor elements for 4-6 weeks before applying the teak sealer. If your furniture does not become wet from the rain during this time, hose with fresh water weekly to wash away any dust and naturals oils, a slight sand can be given prior to adding sealant if required. Follow the instructions provided with your teak sealer carefully for the best results.
  • Alternatively, adding a light timber oiling will give added protection to your furniture. Oiled teak is susceptible to mildew and will be subject to irregular colouring as it weathers. Continue to coat with a clear timber oil once or twice a year to maintain the added protection of your furniture. A slight sand can be given to your furniture prior to oiling if required.

ALUMINIUM FRAMES:

  • Sponge with mild soap and lukewarm water then rinse clean and left to dry.
  • Avoid hitting aluminium furniture pieces against one another and avoid dragging along the ground. We recommend placemats to avoid scratches that can chip the finish and promote oxidization.

CONCRETE:

  • You will need to add sealant and reapply annually to reduce water leaching
  • For general day to day cleaning if needed spray with water then lightly with a mild household standard chlorine bleach diluted 1 part bleach 2 parts water. Leave on for 5 minutes; then spray off with a garden hose.
  • Avoid the use of harsh cleaners and abrasives. Please be aware of staining fabric; Suntan oil, alcohol, juices & other chemicals, may do permanent damage to your furniture’s surface and should be cleaned immediately.
  • DO CLEAN spills as soon as possible, using a mild soap and water, for more aggressive spills, you can use a mild household standard chlorine bleach dilution as above.
  • DO NOT use traditional heavy acid cleaners. These acids are too caustic for use on outdoor concrete furniture.
  • Do not write on furniture without padded barrier.
  • Do not put hot items directly on the furniture surface. Use placemats to avoid damage or marks on the surface.
  • DO NOT pressure wash with high-pressure powered pressure washers, for most applications a garden nozzle will be enough pressure to clean the furniture.
  • Included with some of our concrete furniture is a small tin of wax. This should be used for cleaning the table, bench and chair top surface if there are any strong dirty marks.

GLASS TABLETOPS:

  • Furniture that has tempered toughened glass still needs to be treated with care and can break if subjected to thermal or physical stress. Avoid placing hot or cold items directly on the glass.
  • Use a recognised, non-abrasive glass cleaner regularly.

FABRIC/CUSHIONS:

  • Before cleaning the cushions, brush away any loose dirt. This will help to avoid rubbing in existing dirt as the fabric is cleaned.
  • Clean using a mild liquid detergent and tepid water.
  • Do not use abrasive powders or bleach.
  • If any spots or stains are noted, be sure to remove them right away using a mild cleanser, rinsing thoroughly with clean water.

Failure to observe the above care and maintenance may result in damage to your furniture, UV damage and or fading to your furniture.
